Well, I’ve done it– read the exercises and went back to my Facebook site, which I set up maybe a few months ago. I’m being conscientious here– and feeling how resistant I am to this particular social network. Who knew I was so attached to my e-mail and so uninterested in staying current with Friends?
It’s the funny combination of wanting to be more personal with friends, but not liking that the personal stuff is out there for anyone I’ve friended.
Library apps? I know this application is coming to WebJunction, and I’m waiting to see if that works better for me. Maybe the Facebook is too much out in the world– where old high school friends might drop by unexpectedly.
Having a Facebook site did open my eyes to the cause-driven Facebook. Got an issue? Want an audience? Announce the cause (Vermont librarians!) and see who joins.
In spite of the evidence that I can do this, it’s not my preferred way of communicating. Blogs and e-mail, yes; Facebook, not so much. On the other hand, my daughter showed me a funny Facebook application, Pieces of Flair, which has browsable buttons. Books, beagles and Gilmore Girls worked for me– too bad I can’t upload a picture, but I think the application just works in Facebook.
